Music & Me

Hello there! My name is Isabel Allen, and I am a sophomore vocal performance major. I've always been really into music since I was very young, though it wasn't until high school that I started seeing music as a road I wanted to go down professionally. But, even still, I have been in many different choirs since elementary school, which has made me have a real appreciation for all types of choral music. I also try to listen to everything at least once, and always with an open mind, which leads to my playlists being quite weird and varied.

I have many go-tos, depending on my mood. I tend to switch genres depending on my mood, and while I might want to listen to punk rock one day, the next I might be in a jazz/swing mood. As of recently, I've been listening to quite a lot of K-pop, mostly due to my recently rewatching K-pop Demon Hunters (amazing movie by the way). One of my favorite K-pop groups is called Mamamoo, which is a girl group that was originally created around the idea of vocals being more important than choreography, and you can tell by the way they sing. My favorite song of theirs is a song titled "I Miss You".  I first heard this song when I was watching a competition show they were competing in called Queendom, and I just fell in love with this song.

I hadn't really thought much about what my walk-up song would be for baseball, but I think if I were to have one, it would be a little more on the goofy side. which is why "Pretty Fly (for a white guy)" by The Offspring immediately popped into my head. its just a goofy and catchy song, and it has a really good beat.

It was really hard for me to think of music I don't really like. I guess if I had to pick a specific type of music, I've just never personally been a big fan of techno. I'm open to the idea of finding one I like, but i just haven't found one yet. for those who do like techno, leave a good recommendation in your comment, and ill definitely check it out. the piece I linked is "sandstorm" by Darude.

  1. Oh My gosh, I thought I was the only one who had a thing for jazz music, also I love these tracks that you shared with me, the techno remix of sandstorm I got a real kick out of listening to, I also found the Kpop song really interesting to listen to as someone who isn't familiar with the genre.

  2. I thought that I would be the only person to pick a K-pop song, so this is really refreshing to see. You have to tell me who your favorite group is. I'm also curious about who won Queendom. I don't mind the spoiling.

    1. Mamamoo actually won, which I was super happy about. Its definitely a good watch, there were so many good performances, and I found so many good songs and groups I had never heard of, like AOA
